Silentium defence accelerates global export growth through SAAB Australia partnership

Wednesday, 7 October 2026 – Passive radar company’s export success demonstrates global demand for Australian-built products.

Silentium Defence will use a Global Export Opportunity Program networking event at Land Forces 2026 to highlight how strategic partnerships with industry and government are helping Australian-developed passive radar technology reach international defence and security markets.

The Adelaide-headquartered company develops and manufactures passive radar and low-signature sensing systems that detect and track objects across sea, land, air, and space in complex operating environments across defence, counter-UAS, civil security, and space domain awareness applications.

Its flagship MAVERICK M8 passive radar system is backpack-portable, low size, weight and power, and operational in under ten minutes.

Silentium Defence’s participation in Saab Australia’s Global Export Opportunity Program, supported by the Australian Government’s Global Supply Chain Program, has provided an opportunity to demonstrate the MAVERICK M8 passive radar and support integration discussions in a region where counter-UAS, ground-based air defence and persistent sensing are priority capability areas.

Silentium Defence Global CEO and co-founder Dr James Palmer said the program showed how targeted export support could help Australian technology companies convert international interest into practical market access.

Unlike conventional active radars, Silentium Defence’s systems do not transmit signals of their own. They use existing radio frequency energy in the environment, such as broadcast signals, to detect and track objects. This gives customers a low-signature sensing option that is harder to detect and target, and can complement existing active radars while still integrating into command-and-control systems.

Dr James Palmer, Global CEO and co-founder, Silentium Defence

“Silentium Defence has developed world-class passive radar technology in South Australia, and global customers are recognising what our systems can deliver.”

“Collaborations like the Global Export Opportunity Program matter because they help Australian technology companies move from interest to access. They connect us with global defence supply chains, prime contractors and end users looking for advanced capability that genuinely meets their needs.”

“For Silentium Defence, this is about building on our export success, strengthening our partnerships and helping Australian-developed passive radar reach more allied defence and security customers.”

Mr Ian Muldowney, CEO, UK and Europe, Silentium Defence

“The opportunities emerging across Europe reflect a broader shift towards sensing capabilities that are agile, adaptable and resilient enough for today’s operating environment.”

“Sweden and the broader Nordic region are important proof points for Silentium Defence. They give us the opportunity to demonstrate how passive radar can support counter-UAS, ground-based air defence, and integrated sensing requirements in real operational contexts.”

Andy Keough CSC, Managing Director, Saab Australia

“This is a strong example of how the Global Supply Chain Program helps connect Australian innovation with opportunities in international markets.”

Australian innovation is at its strongest when companies work together. Partnerships like this help build capability, support local industry, and create opportunities for future growth.
